Blue Wolf was founded as a bluegrass band in 2002, by Jerry and Shirley Spanhanks, the dynamic multi-instrumentalists, songwriting husband/wife team from Minnesota. The love of country, bluegrass and rock-n-roll music brings these two musicians together.  Jerry Spanhanks on the guitar (acoustic/electric), banjo, dobro, fiddle, lap steel and pedal steel entertains the audience with his smooth and innovative picking. Jerry has won instrumentalist of the year at IronWorld in northern MN in 1974 and 1994 and has won flatpicking awards. Jerry has backed artists such as Crystal Gayle and Marvin Rainwater.  Shirley Mauch Spanhanks sings lead/ harmony and plays guitar, electric bass and accordion.  Shirley placed 1st in the Senior Division at the MN State Fair flatpicking contest in 2008.

Jerry and Shirley,  perform as a duo, a wide variety of music styles, including rock-n-roll, 50s-80s, country bluegrass and gospel.  Currently, Blue Wolf is in the Rio Grande Valley Oct-mid April.  Jerry and Shirley perform shows and dances.

Blue Wolf has three CD's to it's name:"Red River Moon", "Brown Shingle Shack" and the third all instrumental Dobro CD "Wolf's Run" was released in March of 2012. The "Red River Moon" CD was one of four CD's nominated in the bluegrass/old-time music category at the 2003 Minnesota Music Awards. The Duo is available for weddings, festivals, parks and just about any other event where music is needed. Give us a listen and become part of the pack.

Jerry and Shirley were the leaders of the Blue Wolf Bluegrass Band for 13 years, from 2002-2015, taking the group to festivals, shows, and town celebrations throughout Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, Canada and Nebraska.  Blue Wolf was awarded 1st Place at the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music fest competition in 2012. As first place winners, Blue Wolf performed at the main stage at MBOTMA's prestigious August Festival in front of 5,000-6,000 people.
